As its name suggests, Madhya Pradesh is situated in the very heart of India. It shares its borders with five other states viz., Rajasthan in the north-west, Uttar Pradesh in the north, Gujarat in the west, Maharashtra in the south and Chhattisgarh in the north-east. Madhya Pradesh, with an area of 3, 08, 000 sq. km is the second largest state in India after Rajasthan. 1. Tathagata Roy sworn-in as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh i. Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy was sworn-in as the acting Governor of Arunachal Pradesh ii. Roy has been given the additional charge of Governor of Arunachal Pradesh during the leave of absence of incumbent Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa. iii. Roy was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Ajit Singh in a brief but impressive function at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan. He is the 18th Governor to be sworn-in as the Governor of this Himalayan State. 2. DRDO inks pact with IITs for Centre for Propulsion Technology i. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has signed an agreement with IIT-Bombay and Madras to establish a bi—nodal ‘Centre of Propulsion Technology’ (CoPT) at the two institutions.  ii. 1. India, S Africa sign MoUs in four areas of co-operation i. India and South Africa have signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in four areas of co-operation.  ii. The MoUs have been signed after a delegation-level talks headed by Prime Minister Narendara Modi and South African President Jacob Zuma in Pretoria, South Africa.  iii. The first MoU is on cooperation in the area of information and communication technology. Another MoU calls for cooperation in the tourism sector and is being seen as an important bid to improve people-to-people ties. A third MoU calls for cooperation in grassroot innovation in the science and technology sector. While the fourth agreement has been signed for a programme of cooperation in arts and culture.
