रेलवे स्टेशन पर पहुंचते हम सबके मन में पीले रंग का साइन बोर्ड देखकर एक सवाल उठता है कि आखिर इस पर समुद्र तल से ऊंचाई क्यों लिखी होती है ? ताे इसका जवाब जानने से पहले यह जानना जरूरी है कि समुद्र तल से ऊंचाई का क्या मतलब होता है ? जैसा कि हम जानते हैं कि पृथ्वी गोल है और इसकी सतह भी कर्व्स शेप में है | अत: दुनिया को पृथ्वी की सतह से नापने के लिए एक ऐसे पॉइंट की जरुरत थी जो हमेशा एक समान रहे और समुद्र तल से बेहतर कुछ नहीं था क्योंकि समुद्र तल या समुद्र का पानी एक समान रहता है। इसके लिए Mean Sea level यानी समुद्र तल की ऊंचाईका इस्तेमाल किया जाता है| चलिए इसे एक उदाहरण से समझते है:- अगर ट्रेन 200 मीटर समुद्र तल की ऊंचाई से 250 मीटर समुद्र तल की ऊंचाई पर जा रही है तो ड्राईवर काे यह निर्णय लेना हाेता है कि इस 50 मीटर की अधिक चढ़ाई को चढ़ने के लिए उसे इंजन को कितनी पॉवर देनी पड़ेगी। इसी प्रकार से अगर ये ट्रेन नीचे की ओर जाएगी तो नीचे आते वक्त ड्राईवर को कितनी स्पीड बनाए रखने की जरुरत पड़ेगी। ये सब जानने के लिए समुद्र तल की ऊंचाई Mean Sea level ) लिखा हाेता है । इसके अलावा इसकी मदद से ट्रे...
