Impact of Green Revolution on India

Green Revolution was started in India to make it self dependent in fulfilling its hunger needs.For this there was introduction of high yielding crops and use of chemical fertilisers in the country because these are the factors by which productivity of an country can be enhanced in the field of agriculture.

In India M.S.Swaminathan is considered as the father of Green revolution but this is also a fact that first high yielding wheat was introduced by Norman Borlaug in 1968.Thats why he is considered as the Father of Green Revolution.

The production of wheat has produced one of best result in fulfilling the needs of India.Due to getting good production ,it created a great enthusiasm in farmers towards agriculture.For this the whole credit goes to M.S.Swaminathan and his team.

In this Programme, following methods were adopted:

1.Irrigation

2.Use of pesticides and insecticides.

3.Use of high yielding varities of seeds for getting better crops.

4.Land reforms.

5.Improved rural/village infrastructure.

6.Use of chemical fertilizers.

7.Drip Irrigation

8.consolidation of holdings.

9.Supply of agricultural units.

POSITIVE EFFECT:

1.Increase in production.

2.Better land use by using 2/3 crops in a year.

3.Advantageous for farmer for becoming self dependent.

4.Better scientific methods applied as per requirements.

5.Getting good quality of crops.

6.New seeds were developed with better yield and disease resistance.

NEGATIVE EFFECT:

1.Degradation of land due to regular use of chemical fertilizers.

2.Weeds have increased due to heavy crop rotation.

3.Loss of biodiversity in terms loosin various birds,friendly insects due to use of chemical insecticides and pesticides.

4.Water pollution due to accumulation of chemicals in the water bodies.

5.Excess use of fertilizers have made soil infertile.
